A 10-year-old boy who discovered a bug in the photo-sharing platform, Instagram has received a reward of $10,000 from Facebook. Jani who is from Finland, discovered the bug in Instagram without the help of anyone. The security flaw allowed him to delete other people’s Instagram comments. After the bug was discovered, he reported the issue by email and offered proof by deleting a message on one of Facebook’s test Instagram accounts. The bug was resolved at the end of February and in March Facebook paid him the bug bounty.Jani disclosed, “I would have been able to remove anyone, even Justin Bieber.” He also wishes to become a security researcher.“It would be my dream job. Security is very important.”Finnish newspaper Iltalehti had an interview session with the school boy who disclosed plans to use the reward to buy a new bike, football gear, and new computers for his two brothers.Facebook’s bug bounty has awarded over $4.3 million to more than 800 researchers around the world ever since the programme began 5 years ago. The pay-out is determined based on a bug’s risk and not how complex it may be.Last year 210 researchers received $936,000 with an average pay-out of $1,780. Jani is the youngest person yet to receive a reward from Facebook’s bug bounty programme.
