Kogi Poll: Bello’s Emergence as Governor-Elect Questioned by Six Candidates

The election of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as the governor-elect of Kogi State, has been challenged by six other candidates who contested under various political parties in the 2015 Kogi State Governorship election. They have all approached the state’s Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja, to confront the declaration of Bello as the Governor elect in the said election. Even the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Goodman Akwu equally confronted the declaration of Bello by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the governor-elect of the state at the tribunal. Akwu has requested that a fresh election be conducted as a result of the fact that the votes of the late All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, who died in the process also died with him. The APGA candidate further contended that the votes of the late Audu in the election cannot be transferred to another living person. The governorship candidates that have so far headed for the tribunal over the November 21 governorship election in the state are: James Abiodun Faleke, who was the running mate to the late candidate of APC, Prince Abubakar Audu, Governor Idris Ichalla Wada of PDP, Philips Omeiza Salawu of LP, Goodman Akwu of APGA. The incumbent governor, Wada, equally initiated a petition challenging the return of Bello as winner of the November 21, and December 5, state governorship election.
