All those indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over allegations of illegal diversion and theft, to the tune of about $2.1 billion arms fund, have all been disowned by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This position, which was contained in a communiqué released by the PDP’s national Vice Chairmen on Wednesday, at the end of a meeting in Abuja, stated its support for the President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption.
It would be recalled, that some PDP members, alongside others who had held office when the opposition party held sway, are currently answering questions over alleged diversion of funds meant for arms purchase for the onslaught against Boko Haram.
Those already docked are, former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, and a former Director of Finance at the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu.
Former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, and his son, Sagir Bafarawa have also been implicated in the arms deal saga.
The opposition PDP noted that fighting corruption was imperative for the development of Nigeria, just as it calls for investigations into allegations of financial misappropriation, involving serving public officers.
While supporting the president’s war against corruption, the PDP in their official statement also reiterated that, “Nigerians will realize in the very near future that the PDP remains the only viable choice for the progress and unity of Nigeria.”
