$2.1b Arms Scandal: Group Knocks EFCC for Absolving Jonathan

A Lagos based anti-corruption group, the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), has condemned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, for coming out to say that there was no evidence linking former President Goodluck Jonathan to the $2.1 billion arms scandal for which some Nigerians are currently being tried. The group specifically requested to know if the EFCC boss was combining the job of a solicitor with his chairmanship. CACOL reminded Magu, that former president Goodluck Jonathan was in charge of the government at the time, adding that he should enjoy the glory and blame that came with the administration. It would be recalled that Magu said the former president had not been summoned by the Commission because no document had been traced to him showing approval for the disbursement of the money for any purpose other than for the purchase of arms. However, CACOL said the EFCC chairman should be impartial when investigating cases that involve the former president because the former president is the Chief Security Officer of the country and should be completely in the know about what money was released for the security purposes, not the least, for the purchase of arms and ammunition to prosecute a ravaging internecine. CACOL further stated that the former President, being the Chief Accounting Officer of his regime, should have queried the former Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, if the funds were not properly utilized.
