Ooni Visits Alaafin of Oyo, After 78 Years

History was made on Sunday, when the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja 11), emerged the first Ooni to pay a visit to Oyo town since 1937. It would be recalled that the late Ooni, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, and the Oyo monarch, Oba Adeyemi were engaged in supremacy war. Oba Ogunwusi practically had a handshake with the Alaafin and both of them sat on the same chair, full of smiles. Apparently happy, Alaafin pointed out that the last time an Ooni visited the Alaafin was in 1937. Recalling how close he was to the then Ooni Adesoji Aderemi, the Oyo monarch argued that he never disrespected him, but prayed for his long stay on the throne. Oba Adeyemi added that the misunderstanding started during the reign of the last Ooni. “May your reign be long, Ooni. ”Ž I am happy with Ooni Ogunwusi’s moves to unite all Yoruba Obas,” he said. Responding, Ooni Ogunwusi, described Oba Adeyemi as a great monarch, while noting that it is a new dawn for all Yoruba sons and daughters around the globe.
