Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase on Wednesday maintained that well about 90,000 police officers and men were lost to the activities of Boko Haram which began four years back.Making this known shortly after interacting with men and officers at the Police Command headquarters, Sokoto, the IGP revealed that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) possessed a record of about 90,000 widows whom their husbands died ever since the commencement of the operation of insurgency in the country.The IGP said, “The Nigeria Police Force had initiated a scheme to cater for the families of officers who lost their lives while on duty in the North-East.“We have incorporated a scholarship scheme for the children of our officers who lost their lives in the North-East. This is to ensure that they will continue with their studies so as to enable them achieve their potential.”The police boss posited that the total number of men and officers in the Police Force were not enough to protect effectively, the lives and property of the citizens.
