Abia community attacked by Fulani Herdsmen

A community in Abia state, Ozu Item has been under the attack of Fulani herdsmen barely three weeks after a previous attack of another community in the Arochukwu council of the state. This recent attack has left many farmers with serious and life-threatening injuries.

Crops valued at thousands of naira belonging to the Ozu Item’s farmers were being ravaged by the herdsmen and their cattle.Current secretary to Abia state government, Dr. Eme Okoro has spoken against the attack saying that the attackers have defied all solutions provided by the state government and the police force.Some of the victims of the attack were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia while some were taken to private hospitals for treatment.Reports from the victims state that the attackers plundered their crops and fed their cattle with it. They further stated that the attackers brought in thousands of cattle into the community and when confronted and asked to leave by the farmers, they ignored them and rather attacked their farms.When contacted, the state police confirmed the attack and insisted that investigations were ongoing to probe the situation.
