Adamawa State to shut down IDP camps within a month

The Adamawa State government has announced the closure of all Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camps in the state within a month.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Governor of the state, Martins Babale to newsmen at a State Security Council meeting on Wednesday.He said the administration was not pleased with the continuous existence of the IDPs camps across the state.”˜We will take steps, including encouraging them to settle in villages; we will collaborate with all stakeholders to make sure that between now and January 30th, everyone has left the camps’.Babale who is also the Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency said the continuous existence of the IDPs camps in the state when every other state affected by the insurgents have recovered was tarnishing the image of the state.Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh said the meeting urged the massive enlightenment of the public to be vigilant and also to report any fleeing insurgent from the Sambisa Forest.He also said the government would liaise with organizations such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to track down such fleeing insurgents.
