Again, Court denies Nnamdi Kanu bail

Leader of the IPOB movement, Nnamdi Kanu, has been denied bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday.

Kanu who had been in the custody of the State Security Service since October 2015, had applied twice for bail but have been denied both times.Other defendants convicted alongside the IPOB leader, were also not granted bail. Presiding Justice, Binta Nyako  said, “The offenses are serious in nature. I hereby refuse the bail and order accelerated within two months”Contesting the denial, the defendants argued that charges against them were “bailable” offences, and also not punishable with death.Prosecuting lawyer, Mr Shuaibu Labaran prayed the court not to adhere to the bail application, insisting they be charged from Kuje prison.Mr. Kanu is accused of treason by the Nigerian government for leading his IPOB movement to ask for an independent Biafran country.
