This was disclosed by the Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru during a visit to the management of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). He explained that the airlines were unable to meet up with the cash and carry policy by the marketers due to the huge debt owed them.He also added that the Corporation had taken steps to ensure the adequate supply of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) also known as aviation fuel with the importation of over 45 million litres. However, the Chief Operating Officer of one of the airlines when contacted yesterday denied claims of any debt owed NNPC. Often, the airlines and the marketers exchanged blames on the scarcity of aviation fuel with the airlines blaming the marketers for hoarding the product and selling to the highest bidder while the marketers blamed the airlines for owing huge amounts of debt and failing to adequately source for fuel.Meanwhile, the NNPC Chief has said the corporation was committed to carry on with its twin gas projects, Brass LNG and OK LNG. He also added that the two projects were of high priority to the gas ventures and also they were to bring a boost to the Federal Government revenue.”˜We are still committed as NNPC, to monetizing our natural gas. We have the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) which is at the moment monetizing about four billion standard cubic feet of gas on a daily basis (4 billion scf/d). We also have plans for Olokola LNG as well as Brass LNG’.He also said a meeting of Brass LNG stakeholders was scheduled for early next year to see the way forward.Baru also lauded the NTA management for its factual reportage of the corporation’s activities.
