Lagos State Gov, Akinwunmi AmbodeA handsome compensation from the Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has been put forward for whistleblowers who provide useful information on criminals and crimes to the state government.
Gov Ambode made this public at the launch of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), where he said efforts have been made more than ever before regarding the state government’s commitment to stamping out crimes in the state, same reason the safety corps was launched.
Noting the challenges of huge population and others, the governor said the police need support to complement ongoing efforts in the area of community policing.
Gov Ambode’s commendation went to the police for its very supportive activities in the fight against crimes.
“On August 15, 2016, I assented to the law that created the Neighbourhood Safety Corps. The corps is designed to provide a second layer of policing in order to ensure our state and communities are more secure.
“Let me, however, make it abundantly clear that the Neighbourhood Safety Corps is not in any way in competition with the regular Police Force. “In actual fact, they are expected to assist and complement the police by providing useful intelligence for crime prevention and to facilitate the arrest of perpetrators of criminal activities in our communities.
“In realisation of the fact that nothing can be more important in law enforcement than educating those who enforce it, this crop of elite’ corps have been trained and equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills to complement the good work of the Nigerian police. In addition to the induction on orthodox community policing techniques, the corps have been trained in the following skills: mediating disputes and the art of negotiating for peaceful resolution, balancing communal interest in resolving disputes and proactive policing engagement instead of reactive policing.”
In addition to that, the governor offered to support a bill on the regulation of employment of domestic workers and security guards, which would be sent to the House of Assembly to foster security in the state.
At same time, Lagos State Government has maintained that starting from April 8 through May 27, 2017, it would host 50-day long-drawn events to celebrate Lagos at 50.
The duo of co-chairman, Habib Fashiro and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, jointly said at a world press conference that activities are in the pipelines set to celebrate Lagos for its achievement and heroes, who have contributed to what the state has become.
Ayorinde said in line with ongoing activities for a year now, the next 50 days would be to increase the drive towards the celebration.
Fashiro too added that the celebration would be consummated at a special anniversary gala night scheduled for the Presidential Lodge at Marina in Lagos.Discover more from NewsBreakers
