Arsenal fans’ frustration: This is understandable- Petit

By

Arsenal manager Arsene WengerFormer Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has opened up on his perception about fans’ frustrations with manager Arsene Wenger.Wenger has been at the centre of fan’s unrest at the Emirate, giving rise to a vocal minority asking for his leave in summer when his present contract ends. Wenger took charge at the Emirate in 1996 and his current contract expires in the summer.Wenger presently has a breathing space from his 5-0 FA Cup win over non-league Lincoln City on Saturday. This is taking a reprieve from his humiliating 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.Petit’s opinion is that Wenger’s latest summer signing had not helped his cause, bringing on board the likes of Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, all of whom have struggled to make any effect.Petit spoke to SFR Sport: “There’s part of me that understands the fans’ frustration.“It’s been years now that they have seen other teams win trophies, that the team gets weaker every year, always at about the same stage of the season.“Don’t forget that it’s a group of supporters, it’s not all of them. But I saw their FA Cup tie and thought the first half was really laboured and the crowd silent.“Overall, there’s been a lack of ambition in the transfer market. I think they completely messed up the summer transfer window.“They were hasty regarding certain players. I think Arsene acknowledges that internally with his staff, who made mistakes in that area. They mustn’t make a mess of the next one.” Petit said.
