The petition was jointly signed by the Ibadan Zone ASUU Chairman, Dr. Ade Adejumo and the University of Ibadan, Dr. Deji Omole. Others include Dr. Biodun Olaniran of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Dr. Dauda Adeshina of Kwara State University and Dr. Kayode Afolayan of University of Ilorin. In the petition, ASUU accused the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Isiaq Oloyede and the incumbent Abdulganiyu Ambali of being involved in a fraud totalling over N2 billion. The Union also described the University as one of the most corrupt tertiary institution and said it was using the pretext of keeping a stable academic calendar to silence whistle blowers while perpetrating the enormous fraud. The allegations included pension fraud, unremitted deductions, and extortion from students, contracts inflations, kickbacks and unlawful payments to ex-principals of the institution. The union therefore called on the EFCC to do a thorough investigation into the university as this would open a can of worms. Preliminary investigations carried out by the Union showed the extortion of about 35,000 students over the past years including Sandwich students.A copy of the petition received by the EFCC was stamped and dated 29th December, 2016.
