Bangladesh President Dissolves Parliament

 

Korede TeribaPresident Mohammed Shahabuddin of Bangladesh has dissolved the Bangladesh parliament on Tuesday, August, 2024, following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her flight to India.He has also ordered the release of opposition leader, Khaleda Zia from house arrest. She is a political rival of the prime minister.The Press Secretary to the President, Shiplu Zaman stated in a press statement, “The president has dissolved the parliament.”
The announcement came after protesters threatened additional demonstrations if parliament was not dissolved. The decision was taken following meetings with key stakeholders and leaders Bangladesh.The streets appear calmed as the protesters jubilate and the nation awaits a new government, protesters demanded that Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Mohammed Yunus, head the interim government.
