Bayelsa Guber Poll Challenged in Court

The Hope Democratic Party (HDP), has embarked on a legal offensive, against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), by seeking nullification of the governorship election conducted in the state on December 5, 2015. The party instituted an action at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, seeking an outright cancellation of the gubernatorial poll on the reason that its governorship candidate, Bulus Wombu and his running-mate, King George, were excluded unlawfully in the election. The HDP is also contesting the exclusion of its logo on the ballot paper used for the election by INEC. Further hearing on the suit has been adjourned till February 17, 2016.
