Benue: Catholic Diocese Perplexed as Fire Razes Mount St. Michael’s Secondary School

The Catholic Diocese of Makurdi have been thrown into a state of perplexity as an unknown fire ravaged some buildings of the famous Mount St. Michael’s Secondary School Aliade, in Gwer west Local Government  Area of Benue State.

The Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, Most Rev Wilfred Anagbe paid a visit to inspect the damaged caused by the unfortunate fire incident, which affected the major blocks of the school.

However at the time of this report, the cause of the inferno is not yet known. Mount St. Michael’s Secondary School has produced several popular personalities, such as Cardinal Onaikon who was the former Bishop of Abuja Arch Diocese.

The secondary school, located in Aliade is the oldest Catholic Secondary School in the North Central of Nigeria. It was founded on 2nd February, 1953 at Korinya, present day Konshisha LGA of Benue State by Holy Ghost Catholic Missionaries.

Mount Saint Michael’s Secondary School later moved to its present location in Aliade during the fall season of 1954. The Management of the school has passed through the purposeful leadership of twelve Principals. Fr. Terungwa Tor is the thirteenth Principal.
