Immediate past Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam was on Tuesday arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over alleged money laundering to the tune of N3.1 billion.Suswam who presided over the state from 2007 to 2015 was docked together with his commissioner for finance, Omadaki Oklobia. But the duo pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting their lawyer, Ahmed Raji to request that the court grant them bail on self recognition. In his argument, EFCC lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs insisted that in as much as he is not opposed to bail, the defendants should not be granted bail on self recognistion on the reason that a former governor had jumped bail. The court, presided over by Justice A.R Mohammed granted them bail in the sum of N100 million with two sureties who must be senior civil servants of level 12 and above, or any person occupying a national office.
The judge ordered that the defendants would remain in custody until they are able to perfect their bail conditions.
