(BREAKING) CCT: Saraki’s Trial Stopped

Reprieve came the way of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, when the Supreme Court of Nigeria, on Thursday directed the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) sitting in Abuja, to stay further proceeding in the trial of Saraki over allegation of false declaration of assets. The Supreme Court, presided over by Justice John Fabiyi arrived at the decision sequel to an agreement by lawyer to the prosecution, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) that proceedings at the tribunal should be stopped so that the appeal initiated by the Senate President would be given a speedy hearing. It would be recalled that the Senate President had initiated an appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal which had earlier confirmed the fitness of the charge made against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau before the tribunal. The Senate President had also challenged the jurisdiction of the CCT to entertain the charges against him.”Ž
