The new Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has been crowned Ojaja II.In presenting the staff of office and instrument of appointment to the monarch, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, who stated that it is God who enthrones for both traditional and circular offices, noted that kingship appointment was not ordinary.According to the governor, “As a king, you have great powers and privileges which carry a lot of responsibilities.“Honesty, justice and fairness should be your watchword. You must also not push aside peace and prosperity in the land.“You are also expected to unify the Ife kingdom and bring harmony to the land and the people. You are to avoid division and pursuit of personal interest.“You must be guided by the interest of the people and show them love, guide them and listen to all they have to say.“You must be in close contact with the elders and youths of Ile-Ife.Responding, the Ooni of Ife, while thanking the people for the confidence bestowed on him, noted that there are so many good things in Nigeria which the youths can explore.He also promised to do everything within his power as a royal father to bring good things to the people of Ile-Ife and the entire Yoruba race.Earlier in his address at the ceremony, President Muhammadu Buhari, while describing the throne of the Ooni as a powerful institution in the Yoruba race, urged the monarch to carry the responsibility of taking the race to greater heights.Represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Buhari also admonished the monarch to ensure that high moral standards are upheld among the Yoruba race and indeed amongst Nigerians as a whole.On his part, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’adu Abubakar expressed the readiness of the traditional institutions across the country to doing everything possible towards ensuring that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari succeeds.The Sultan also promised that the new Ooni will get the total support of the traditional institutions in Nigeria.
