A foremost Chinese security software provider has announced that “Hundreds of thousands” of Chinese computers at about 30,000 institutions, involving agencies of government were struck by the global ransom ware attack, meanwhile the consequence on Asia is comparatively soft.The enterprise-security division of Qihoo 360, ranking among leading China suppliers of anti-virus software, confirmed that 29,372 institutions including government offices and universities, ATMs and hospitals were “infected” by the recent outbreak on Saturday.Report credited to Qihoo 360 on Sunday confirmed ransom ware had spread through higher education, with not less than 4,000 Chinese universities and research institutions infected.Not much was said about the level of damage done as China’s government has not made any official statement for now.No fewer than 150 countries, including governments, companies and computer experts were affected in the worsening international cyber-attack as work begins in a new week, however, Asia has remained less troubled.The attack, unselective as it were, started on Friday leaving behind banks, hospitals and government agencies with sad tales of recently deployed vulnerabilities in older Microsoft computer operating systems.Media organization in China on Monday said the official Cyberspace Administration of the country affirmed the attack is on its spreading course but had gradually slowed down.
