Don’t try to rig Anambra governorship election- PDP tells INEC APGA

As the Anambra State governorship election draws closer, the state chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it will resist any attempt by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to rig the poll.

The PDP told the electoral body and the two political parties that what happened in the just-concluded governorship election in Edo State will not be tolerated in Anambra.According to the party, INEC should be wary of Anambra because the people will not tolerate “the fraud perpetrated in Edo State recently “where the electorate cast their votes but their votes did not count.”The state PDP Chairman, Prince Ken Emeakayi, said: “We want to send a note of caution that such should never happen in this state. What PDP gave to Nigeria is one man, one vote. The PDP wants reform in Nigeria’s electoral system, whereby every vote will count. All we request is that in the 2017 election in Anambra, every vote must count, we advocate for one man, one vote.”The APC in Anambra State had recently issued a statement congratulating the Edo State governor elect, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and INEC for conducting such election and urged the commission to ensure that the feat is replicated in Anambra in 2017.+But Emeakayi warned that the PDP in Anambra will not allow the robbery of the mandate of the people that took place in Edo.He said: “We condemn the manner that the INEC, under the change agent, has been conducting its activities, whereby it has refused to allow the PDP to enjoy the mandate given to the party by the Anambra electorate to represent Anambra Central in the Senate.“We want to warn that free and fair electoral system given to Nigerians by the PDP government should not be thwarted by APC. We condemn what happened in Edo, and we say that same will not happen in Anambra.+“The journey to 2017 has just begun. The PDP is the party to beat in Anambra State. At present, we are not only organised, but also together, united and poised to take over what rightly belongs to us. We are prepared to possess our possession. Anambra State Government House is our possession, and we are taking it back, by the grace of God, in 2017,” he said.
