‘Early medical detection is the best’, lagos state governor, ambode advises lagosians

By Busola KareemThe governor of Lagos state, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode employed the services of doctors on a 5 day medical mission in Epe area of Lagos. He also encouraged Lagosians to undergo early medical checkups so as to avert illnesses from becoming severe. During the induction of the medical mission, he also stated that most illnesses require quick diagnosis and solution. He further pointed out that medical missions were the simplest ways of providing medical services to those who are ignorant of their health status. Medical conditions such as hypertension and diabetes start off slowly and innocently and before one gets aware of it, it could be at a serious stage.

Representing the state governor, Dr. Femi Onanuga reported that the basis of the mission was to provide appropriate medical services to the people of Lagos since only people in good health can move the state forward.”˜Our commitment has been expressed in the strengthening of the health sector through capacity building, recruitment, upgrading of infrastructure as well as construction of medical facilities’, he said.Governor Ambode also announced that the state was working to improve the healthcare facilities in the state to run round the clock and provide medical service at any hour of the day. He also begged doctors and other professionals in the state civil service to imitate the gesture made by the Medical Guild.Dr. Saliu Oseni, Chairman of the Medical Guild said the free health mission was to express gratitude to the governor for efforts taken to improve the medical sector of the state. He also said the free mission will test people for various illnesses and procure treatment where needed, especially non-contagious diseases such as obesity, diabetes. Also, free eye, dental and general surgery will also be made available.
