EFCC discovers 50 C of Os and jewelries from former NSA

In the recent search of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Maj Gen Abdullahi Sarki Muktar, former National Security Adviser to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, it has recovered 50 C of Os and jewelries worth millions of Naira.The recovered items were kept in custody of one Akka Babba Danagundi, brother-in-law to the ex-NSA.In the course of the search, the found jewelries were kept in a fireproof safe hidden in a house belonging Danagundi at 375, Gwangwazo quarters of Kano Municipal, Kano State.An EFCC source told newsmen that “About 50 documents in respect of landed properties bearing the name of the former NSA and his wife, Binta Sarki Mukhtar were also discovered”.“The discovery was sequel to an intelligence report alleging that huge sums of money including foreign currencies were hidden in the premises”, he added.Those arrested by the anti-graft agency were seven suspects including the house owner, Danagundi. They were brought to EFCC ”˜s Kano Zonal Office where statements were obtained from them.It was gathered that when the safe was opened on arrival at the commission’s Kano Zonal Office, necklaces and wristwatches including 50 Certificates of Occupancy for properties located in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja were recovered.“The jewelries found includes 55 wristwatches, including three gold watches. Also, 37 gold jewelry weighing 1,907.9g and another 15 pieces of fashion jewelries were found,” the source added.All the suspects apprehended during the operations, except Danagundi, were released on bail. Danagundi who is presently hibernating in custody, would assist in further investigation.
