Egypt’s dethroned President, Mohamed Morsi would breathe a sigh of relief after having his death sentence reversed by the Court of Cassation on Tuesday, reports say. The court ordered a re-trial for Morsi after three years in prison.Morsi has been charged with acts of terrorism; spying for Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group and Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist group; and stealing classified documents in a bid to reveal secrets to Qatar, a known supporter of the Brotherhood, of which he is a member; to break out arrested Islamists. He was also indicted on a charge of escaping prison in January 2011 during the coup that led to Mubarak’s depose.Twenty-one others sentenced to life were also granted a re-trial by the apex Court.Morsi came into power as a democratically elected President following the ousting of Hosni Mubarak who ruled as Egypt’s Premier for 29 years. He was overthrown by Egyptian Army Chief General, Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, in a coup, over refusal to resolve issues that lead to a nationwide protest.Mohamed Morsi is also facing charges of brutally assaulting protesters against his government. He faces 3 other trials before the court; which ranges from 20 years in prison, a life sentence and a death sentence, but was saved from the death penalty following the court’s ruling on Tuesday.International agencies decried the state of trials that led to Ex-President Morsi’s arrest as politically motivated and tainted with Human Rights Violation.
