Eluned Morgan Confirmed As First Female Leader Of Wales

Eluned Morgan has on Tuesday, 6th of August, 2024, been confirmed as the first female first minister of Wales, following a vote in the Welsh Parliament. She is set to replace Vaughan Gething who lasted just four months in charge. Morgan, 57, became the new Welsh Labour leader last month, making her the party’s nominee to become first minister of Wales.
Lawmakers in Wales’s 60-member assembly, the Senedd, confirmed the nomination having been recalled from recess.   Gething, who became the first black leader of a government in a European country when he was elected in March, stepped down last month after a series of controversies.

Eluned Morgan was backed by 28 MSs, Conservative Andrew RT Davies received 15 votes and Plaid Cymru’s Rhun ap Iorwerth 12.
