Former  NEPA Lagos coach, Joe Erico, has urged the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, to give more players the opportunity to fight for their places in the national team.
“The Eagles are beginning to fly but they can do more than they have already done,” Erico told our correspondent.
“The team is not there yet as some people think. They need more reinforcements in the areas of perceived weaknesses.“The defence is not yet as solid as the days when we had the likes of late Stephen Keshi and Uche Okechukwu.“The team Gernot Rohr is having now is looking like the old Eagles but they still have a long way to go. The team should have reinforcements in every department to enable the players to compete for roles.”The former Eagles goalkeeping coach added, “The Eagles lagged behind the best on the continent and their newfound success should not be taken for granted. The success should be built upon and sustained through the reinforcements ahead of the other qualifiers.“Players from the domestic league too should be given a chance to compete with their overseas-based counterparts for starting roles. Rohr should not depend entirely on the overseas-based professionals.” Erico, who praised the team for winning their 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Zambia and Algeria, said there should be competition for roles in the Eagles.
