The APC-led federal government has corroborated its campaign promise of paying an allowance of N5,000 to indigent Nigerian youths. They also added that the payment will commence early next year.Solomon Dalong, Minister of Youth and Sports revealed this when he visited the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. His visit was to commiserate with the party on the demise of Prince Abubakar Audu, the party’s governorship candidate in Kogi’s inconclusive election.Dalong further revealed to newsmen that the APC government plans to fulfil all the promises made to Nigerians during the last general elections. He explained that every promise must be backed up by budgetary provision and that was the reason the payments had not kicked off as there was no provision for it in the 2015 budget. The minister however confirmed that ther would be budgetary allocations for the N5000 allowance to youths in the 2016 budget. He said: “We are committed to the campaign promises of creating jobs, providing wealth creation and combating poverty. We have embedded in our manifesto things that we are translating into reality. Some of the youth empowerment programmes that are ongoing, we are busy reviewing them to ensure that they are more viable and people oriented.”Chief Odigie-Oyegun the national chairman of the APC expressed satisfaction with the appointment of Dalong as Youth and Sports Minister. He further added his previous performances in public offices gave him confidence that the minister would deliver.
