The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped five places in the April edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking. This puts the team as 67th in the world and 14th in Africa.
2014 World Cup runners-up, Argentina have reclaimed top spot. La Albiceleste’s recent performances in World Cup qualifying helped them end Belgium’s five-month-long reign at the summit of football’s world ranking which began when the Red Devils snatched pole position from Argentina back in November 2015. Chile moved into third (up two places), Colombia fourth (up four) and Uruguay ninth (up two) to strengthen the South American grip on the top ten.
A total of 171 games were taken into account for the April edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, which includes 51 qualifiers for Russia 2018, 60 continental qualifiers and 60 international friendlies.
The World champions Germany dropped down one position to fifth after losing to England and winning against Italy in international friendlies while European Champions Spain dropped from third to sixth after back-to-back draws against Italy and Romania.
Brazil and Portugal moved down to seventh and eighth respectively, while Uruguay is up two positions to ninth. England dropped down one place to round off the top 10.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 5 May 2016.
