About 4,808 students were said to have been matriculated on Thursday by the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna, out of 8,427 candidates who passed its Post- UTME screening and qualified to be admitted. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Musbau Adewumi Akanji, made this revelation during the matriculation ceremony of the new students at the school’s auditorium. Akanji revealed that the institution remains committed to the training of skilled and innovative workforce that would serve as transformation agents in the utilisation of Nigeria’s natural resources. He said most students failed because they wrote their examination in shorthand which they use in sending text messages on phones. Akanji stated, “We not only seek to achieve academic excellence but also moral uprightness of our students, we believe that such holistic approach in our training is very imperative and pertinent to employment in the present job market that is becoming even more saturated.” The VC then advised the students to abstain from, indecent dressing, exam malpractices, cultism and other law-breaking activities in and outside the campus, as the school will not hesitate to rusticate anyone found wanting. An earlier report says a total of 12,529 candidates applied to the institution through Direct Entry and Post- UTME examinations.
