Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of State for Health, has said that his Ministry will partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps to review the process emergency management of road accidents in the country. He said this was aimed to improve the system and take it to the next level. The Minister made this revelation when he received a delegation from the Federal Road Safety Corps, led by Corps Marshall Boboye Oyeyemi. This was said to be an advocacy visit to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. Dr. Ehanire revealed in his speech that accidents and loss of lives have negative effect on the economy of the affected families, also a multiplying effect on the country’s economy in general. He added, “all stakeholders must come on board and be committed towards ensuring rapid response to road accidents and prevention of same.” Dr. Ehanire, while speaking emphasised that the corps marshals are to scale-up their effort and make sure that, “Persons who apply for a driver’s license for the first time should be made to undergo a ”˜First Aid course’ before being issued a license”¦” Corps Marshall Bobye Oyeyemi in his response to the Minister said that speed had been identified as a key risk factor in road transport crashes. He proposed that the best way to reduce road accident is to install speed limiters and speed governors. Adding that, it was timely and is the most cost effective ways to involuntarily restrain drivers from over speeding.
