IDP camp bombing: House of Reps wants immediate, comprehensive investigation

The House of Representatives has demanded an immediate and comprehensive investigation into accidental bombing of internally displaced persons camp in the North East Nigeria.

This followed a unanimous adoption of a motion under matters of urgent public importance presented before the House by the Chairman House Committee on IDPs, Refugees and North East Initiative, Sani Zorro.Members also charged the Armed Forces to take necessary measures to avert future occurrences.Presenting the motion, Zorro expressed concern that the incident occurred when the country is celebrating the success of the armed forces in rooting out the insurgents from their strong hold.“The House notes with concern the preliminary explanation by the armed forces command that the incident was not a deliberate act of targeting, nor  a hostile act on the civilian population.” Zoro argued.Members were unanimous on the fact that the armed forces are winning the war, but stressed the need for close monitoring and supervision of officers and men of the armed forces in discharging their duty of safe guarding and protecting the IDPs and other civilians.People were killed and hundred others wounded on Tuesday, when Nigerian Air Force Jet mistakenly bombed an IDPs Camp at Rann, Kale-Balge area of Borno State.
