Kenya Declares Corruption A National Tragedy

Kenyan has officially declared corruption in public service as a serious national security threat. This was made known by President, Uhuru Kenyatta today. The country’s leader linked corruption to terrorist attacks. He said, “The bribe accepted by an official can lead to successful terrorist attacks that kill Kenyans.“It can let a criminal off the hook for them to return to crime and harm Kenyans.”According to Kenyatta, the collateral damage done by corruption could also put millions of lives in danger of poverty, unemployment and diseases.Mr Kenyatta made these remarks exactly two days after the Minister of Planning, Anne Waiguru, stepped down over allegations that she had failed to stop the theft of 7.6 million dollars from a national youth empowerment programme.Five other ministers and 175 officials have also been suspended over accusations of corruption and abuse of office.
