Kerala priest arrested for raping 17-year-old

Vaddakumchiryil.A 17-year-old teenager in Kannur has given birth to a baby after being allegedly raped by a priest in a church. The accused father has been arrested.The incident came to light after the police was informed by childline activists on Monday following an anonymous complaint that a girl gave birth last week. Childline is a telephone helpline for children in distress.On enquiry, the teenager, who is in grade 11, stated that she was raped by the priest at a church.Father Robin Vaddakumchiryil (48), the bishop of St Sebastian church has confessed to the crime. He manages the school where the girl studies.The Father has been charged under stringent provisions of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) and IPC, India.Source: IndiaToday
