Lack of Intelligence Sharing Hampering Fight against Insurgency, Other Crimes- IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has insisted that the hoarding of intelligence information remains a major impediment to the effectiveness of the Nigerian Police in tackling insurgency, kidnapping and other crimes. According to Arase, “We engage other services and members of the public to check crimes, but intelligence information hoarding by other security agencies is a big challenge. “We have problems with intelligence information sharing with other security agencies because they keep information to themselves. “We feel that there should be an avenue for agencies that need information to have it immediately to be able to act on it and make the country more secure. The IGP recommended the establishment of monthly security meetings between the Commissioners of Police and other security agencies.
