Lawyers, Activists Laud Court Ruling on Kano Emirate Tussle

A group called The National Coalition of Northern Lawyers and Public Interest Activists has on Friday, lauded the Federal High Court ruling annulling the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.This is as the group described the ruling as a vindication of the people’s stand “On the illegality of the Kano State Government’s actions in dissolving the Kano Emirates and dethroning Emir Ado Bayero, reports Punch.Recall that Justice Abdullahi Liman of the Federal High Court, Kano on Thursday, June 20, 2024, overturned all the actions taken by Governor Abba Yusuf after the Kano Emirate law was amended by the State House of Assembly on May 23, 2024.Justice Liman, among others, faulted the governor’s assent to the bill and the presentation of an appointment letter to Sanusi on May 24, 2024, citing a court order directing all parties to maintain the status quo ante.
