The Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, has begun sales of fertiliser to the farmers in the area with a caution to avoid its diversion for the benefit of all.Mrs Mary Enwongulu, the State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, launched the sales of the fertilisers on Monday at the council secretariat.News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 18,000 bags of fertiliser would be distributed to the farmers in the area.Enwongulu, who hailed from the area, said that the state government would deal with anyone found selling the fertiliser above approved the official price of N4,000 per bag.She urged farmers to use the product in order to boost food production, while advising them against hoarding and selling of the product to others.She said that the state government would deal with anyone found sabotaging government’s efforts to boost food production.According to her, the timely procurement and distribution of the commodity is aimed at ensuring better harvest and food security in the state.“Gov. Tanko Al-Makura is doing his best in boosting agricultural production in the state through his good agricultural policies in order to fight hunger, poverty and to ensure food security.“Recently, the state government had officially launched the sales of fertiliser procured for the 2018 cropping season in order to boost agricultural produce in the state and the country at large.“The state government would not spare anyone trying to sabotage its good efforts by selling fertiliser above the approved price of N4,000 per bag and I want to caution against its diversion for the benefit of all.“The state government has subsidised the product in order to reduce the hardship being faced by farmers in the state,” she said.The commissioner advised the people of the area to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.Also speaking, Mr Ibrahim Kore, the Director of Personnel Management (DPM) of the council, also urged farmers to ensure judicious used of the product.He commended the governor for the provision of the fertiliser, adding that it would go a long way in boosting food production in the area and the state at large.Some farmers who spoke during the launching lauded the state government for the gesture and called for its sustenance.Source: businessdayonline.com
