A 33- year- old Musa Abass who admitted burning 5 Sports Utility Vehicles belonging to his employer has explained that he committed the crime in order to avenge what he called ”˜impromptu sack’.
The Taraba born security guard alleged that his sack by his employer shattered all his plans of saving money for the delivery of his wife. Prior to the incident, Abass worked as a security guard in a residence in Lagos. He expressed shock over his sack without prior notice explaining that there was no direct frosty relationship with the owner of the house. He, however, alleged that one of the tenants persuaded the landlord to terminate his appointment without prior notice or even giving him the opportunity to defend himself.“I was employed as a security guard with a salary of N20,000 per month and I was enjoying my job until recently when a tenant had minor issues with a co-tenant over payment of unmetered NEPA bill. They sought my views on the issue as the security guard of the house, but my views did not go down well with one of them. After that he began to plot for my down fall and succeeded in convincing the land lord to sack me,” he explained.Abass reiterated that his several appeals for the land lord to give him the opportunity to tell him his own side of the story was unsuccessful and he was finally relieved of his appointment without any payment in lieu of notice.“I was not happy because the incident took me unawares as I have nowhere to lay my head or get money considering also that my wife is pregnant and will deliver any moment from now. “I was sad, furious and angry and had no option than to avenge my sack by setting ablaze the cars inside the compound, generator and two units of flats. I did not run because I was prepared for the consequences. But when I saw the extent of damage that my action caused, I attempted to run but was arrested by the police and was transferred to Special Anti Robbery Squad (SAR) for further investigations,” he noted.Abass who appeared remorse and full of regret for his action, begged for forgiveness, admitting that his action led to the destruction of properties worth several millions of Naira. ”Tell the police to leave me and not jail me because that will be the worst that could happen to me, bearing in mind also that my wife will soon deliver and there will be no body to assist her. Instead, the police should release me to the landlord so that I will work for him throughout my life. He should be paying me half of my salary and keep the remaining till I finished the payment of the damaged items,” he appealed. However, the Investigating Police Officer, (IPO), a Corporal told our correspondent that investigation is still ongoing and will be charged to court immediately it is completed. What's your reaction?
