Mother arrested for possibly staging 10 year old son’s kidnap

A woman identified as Barakat Daya has been arrested by the Operatives of the Yobe State Security Service (DSS) on account of being behind her 10 year old son, Mohammed Daya’s kidnap. A friend of hers, Rukayat Danladi was also arrested.

According to the DSS, the service suspects their culpability in the kidnap case after Mohammed was rescued from the kidnappers on Wednesday.On Wednesday, the agency was called in after the boy was kidnapped at Ben Kalio Housing Estate, Damaturu with the kidnappers demanding a N5 million ransom. However, several hours later that same day, the boy was rescued by operatives of the service in Potiskum town, Potiskum Local Government Area which is about 100 kilometres from Damaturu.It was later revealed that the boy’s mother had connived with the kidnappers to kidnap the boy. This was revealed by Tony Opuiyo for the agency in the end of the year statement cataloguing the crime busting efforts of the secret agency.Other criminal busts were revealed from the statement including members of a gang who robbed foreigners, either visiting or living in Abuja.According to the statement, two members of the gang, Ikechukwu Obadlegwu and Ikechukwu Eke were already in police custody.
