N3.1billion Debt: Appeal Court to Deliver Ruling on Zamfara State Government’s Suit

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, will deliver a judgment on the appeal initiated by the Zamfara State Government, against the judgment of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court. It would be recalled that Justice Abang had in his judgment, directed the Zamfara State government to pay a judgment sum to the tune of N3.159, 017,940.71, to Ecobank Nigeria Limited, being the outstanding indebtedness to the bank. The matter was  initiated by Ecobank Nigeria Ltd against the Zamfara State government. The Zamfara government on its part asked the Appellate Court to throw out a garnishee order attaching the money of the state in all the banks pending the hearing and determination of the substantive appeal.  The other defendants in the suit are; Zamfara state’s Attorney-General; Zamfara State Ministry of Finance; Accountant-General of the Federation; Attorney-General of the Federation and Central Bank of Nigeria. However, not satisfied, the Zamfara State government filed an appeal against the judgment, asking the Appeal Court to set aside the judgment.
