Professor Segun Ajiboye, The Ibadan Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, has called on the newly appointed Education Minister and President Buhari to make it a priority for Education to have 26 percent of the 2016 Budget. He asserted that doing that would ensure “that children of the poor have access to qualitative education.”
Prof. Ajiboye also expressed displeasure over the lack of implementation of the 2009 ASUU/FG agreement which the former ASUU President, Prof. Iyayi, fought for till he was killed in Kogi State. He said: “Festus Iyayi fought for the masses and lived an exemplary life. We are calling on the new Minister of Education and President Buhari to ensure that children of the poor have access to qualitative education. The Minister must ensure the full implementation of the 2009 agreement. The National Assembly to drive the change in the country by voting 26percent of the budget on Education. Iyayi’s dream for Education in Nigeria must not die.”He bemoaned the fact that since ASUU strike was called off in 2013, intervention fund released is not more than N200billion out of the N1.3 trillion agreed by ASUU with the government.
