Nigerian troops assisted by members of the Civilian JTF have intercepted four female suicide bombers as they made frantic efforts to pass a checkpoint at the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State. Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement that the suicide bombers were observed as they tried to bypass a military checkpoint through a nearby village before they were ordered to take the right road. Usman added that as they approach the checkpoint, one of the bombers fleetly detonated her vest, making the troops to respond promptly, gunning down the other three suicide bombers before they could carry out their acts. According to Usman, “The Nigeria Police Explosive Ordinance Device team in the area safely detonated the unexploded Improvised Explosive Device carried by the other suicide bombers. The security situation in the area is now cool and calm.”
