Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin has stated that the nation’s Armed Forces was committed to the safety and protection of the Nigeria’s borders.

This was announced at a Multinational Joint Military Technical Cooperation meeting involving Nigeria, Togo, Burkina Faso, Benin and Niger. The meeting was held to discuss joint border protection.The easily accessible border in the region has made it extremely difficult to curtail border crimes, insurgency and illegal smuggling.As announced by Olonisakin, he said the army would fight against trans-border crimes and place in check security challenges in the North-East caused by the Boko Haram terrorist group. He further pointed out that no effort will be spared to contain trans-border criminal activities.Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango, who represented the CDS at the meeting also said the countries must come together to ensure the safety of its citizens and borders. He also lauded the efforts of the Francophone countries and their government for their tremendous help and support in fighting against terrorism.
