The recent scarcity of petroleum products in Nigeria, and its resultant hardship on citizens, has led to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) issuing an official apology to Nigerians, soliciting their patience whilst assuring Nigerians that the situation will be brought under control. The NNPC also revealed that it has entered into a partnership with security agencies in Nigeria apparently to assist in the monitoring of petrol supply across the country.NNPC added that, “We must all make sure that petroleum products get across to Nigerians at the regulated price especially as the yuletide season approaches.“We have enough products and we want to plead with the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTDs) not to be involved in the diversion of petroleum products in order to avoid causing untold hardship to motorists.”Explaining the role expected of security agencies in tackling product diversion, Managing Director (MD), Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, Mrs. Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue, argued that the Department of State Services (DSS) alongside the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been directed to apprehend any marketer found frustrating the effort of the Federal Government (FG) to ensure availability of petroleum products to motorists across the country.According to her, “We have invited the EFCC and DSS to join us in this campaign of monitoring the movement of petroleum products and they have our mandate to sanction any errant marketer. Enough is enough.”
