Obat Oil facility Shut Down by NIMASA

Obat Oil and Gas facility was shut down yesterday by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, at the Ibafon area of Apapa. They shut down the facility for non-compliance of the International Ship and Port Facility Security, ISPS, Code. The head of NIMASA’s Public Relations department, Hajia Lami Tumaka confirmed the development. She said that the facility was closed for failing to comply with the Code, adding that henceforth any facility that falls short of the agency’s expectation with regards to the Code will also be sanctioned and further action will be taken.Tumaka said that Obat will remain shut until they meet every requirement for compliance of the Code.Mr. Lucky Aghomi, a maritime security expert told newsmen that Obat along with some other facilities found it difficult to comply.Aghomi further noted that NIMASA needed to take action on non-complying facilities and terminals, because if they had failed to do that it will compromise security at the port.
