Okowa Confirmed Delta Governor

An Abuja division of the Court of Appeal has upheld the election of the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as the elected governor of the state in the April 11 election. Okowa contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Appeal Court, presided over by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, threw out the appeal filed by the Labour Party and its governorship candidate, Great Ogboru, for lacking in merit. More so, the appellate court further punctured another appeal instituted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor. The appellate court declared that the Delta State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal was right, when it dismissed the petitions of Ogboru and Emerhor against the election of Okowa in its separate judgments. The Court of Appeal further held that the cross appeal, initiated by Governor Okowa, wherein he prayed for him to be declared as the validly elected governor by a majority of the votes cast in the April 11election succeeds. The court also made a proclamation stating that the duo of Ogboru and Emerhor failed to substantiate the allegations of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act in the conduct of the election.
