Over 700 tertiary staff disowned by Delta state government over illegal employment

By Akinwande OnadekoOver 700 academic and non-academic staff of some tertiary institutions have been disowned by the Delta state government over illegal employment as their names did not appear in the state’s payroll. This information was announced by the state’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Mr. Jude Sinebe, at Asaba. The commissioner also said there was no employment for the affected staff before they were hired.

A statement said by him is as follows; ”˜In tertiary institutions, we just don’t employ workers for the sake of employment. We only employ when there is a need for such workers’.Cases of affected staff were found in different Delta tertiary institutions such as Delta Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku and the state Colleges of Education in Agbor and Warri. He further claimed that most schools went on to employ the affected staff without resorting approval from the government.
