Provide warranty for products – CPC tells dealers and manufacturers

The Consumer Protection Council has urged Nigerian manufacturers and product marketers to always provide warranty on their products.

The council gave this charge during a stakeholders’ meeting on enforcement of warranties and guarantees on products and services.while addressing key industry operators in automobile, electrical/electronics, heavy duty equipment, online markets and superstores subsectors of the nation’s economy during the event,  the Director-General, CPC, Mrs. Dupe Atoki, described as regrettable the fact that businesses operating in the country failed to live up to specified guarantees and warranties for the products and services they offered.She noted that manufacturers and distributors had not only short-changed Nigerian consumers over time by their failure to honour their products or services’ implied guarantee or warranty, but also abused consumer rights with clauses such as  “No refund of money after payment,” and “Goods received in good condition cannot be returned” on their receipts.The CPC boss stated, “Worse still is the fact that even multinational corporations that adhere strictly to the tenets of implied or specified guarantee and warranty in other countries come up with all sorts of devices in Nigeria to renege on same.”
