Recovery of looted Nigerian funds will take a while- United States

The United States reiterated its commitment in assisting the nation in its recovery of stolen funds kept in the country from previous administrations. Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy, Mr. David Young gave the reassurance at Abuja yesterday to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day.

He said the recovery of the stolen funds was a ”˜systemic effort which would take time’ adding that certain legal obligations were to be met.He also added that the corruption had a negative impact on governance, slowing down the accomplishments of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).He added that the government was working side by side with Nigeria to fight corruption.Participants present at the event also urged Nigerians to join in the war against corruption and not to leave it to the government to handle alone.
