Sheikh Hasina Resigns and Flees to India After Dangerous Protests

Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, has reportedly fled resigned and fled to India on August 5, 2024, after a dangerous protest.She fled to India in a military Helicopter as protesters reportedly invaded her official residence in Dhaka. Reports of her resignation have been confirmed by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.Bangladesh has been overwhelmed by massive protests, calling for the discarding of the quota system in government jobs. This morphed into a call for prime Minister’s resignation.In the protests, close to 300 people have been killed. On Sunday night, close to 100 people were killed. However, the unrest remained high on Monday as protesters called the Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.In his address to the nation, Bangladesh Army Chief, General Waker – Uz – Zaman, stated that “by tonight” there would be solution to the political upheaval.“We will also ensure that justice is served for every death and crime that occurred during the protests,” he added. Read also:
