The Sokoto State Government says it will construct 1, 000 units of one-bedroom houses for low-income earners in the state.Gov. Aminu Tambuwal made this disclosure on Tuesday while receiving the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Malam Mustaph Shehure, who was paying a courtesy visit.“The aim was to improve the welfare of the people as well as provide opportunity to more citizens of the state to own houses.“Already, my administration has completed the 500 housing units it inherited from the last administration and have been inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari when he visited Sokoto in November, 2016.“We hope to complete another 500 housing units at Gidan Man Ada, before the end of this year.” Our aim is to ensure that civil servants and other interested individuals who can afford these houses get them and utilize them for the purposes they were meant for.“We are conscious of the fact that more and more people need houses and as government, we will do our best to meet these needs,” Tambuwal, said.He further commended the Federal Government for the ongoing national housing projects handled by the Ministry across the country, adding that his administration would collaborate with the federal government to provide adequate and affordable housing to the people.Earlier in his remarks, the Minister of State said he was in Sokoto to inspect the construction of the 80 housing units being executed by the Federal Government in Sokoto.Shehure also commended the state government for providing land to the ministry for the project, saying, “Sokoto is the first state to achieve this level of progress of the project.”
